This past spring I was given the opportunity to photograph nine great friends just before they said goodbye to one of their own. These girls have been friends for years, some of them since they were quite young, and now one was moving out of state. We gathered as many of the girls as we could one afternoon after school and headed to a local park in the bright sun and melting snow…
They were having fun and giggling and laughing and I could easily see how much fun they had together and how greatly they were going to miss their friend…she’s right there in the center with all the support and friendship of her girls.
This age for girls – these middle school years – can be rough…and for boys, too. I’m happy for these nine girls and their great friendship and hope that they continue to look out for one another. And in this great age of technology they can keep up on the happenings of their friend even after she has moved. I love to look back on photos of myself with my friends from this time in my life…we have snapshots from birthdays and other events (when someone would bring a camera to school – and actually got the photos developed!!) and those are so fun to look through. A session like this where we could simply celebrate who we were at this super important time in our lives would be so great.

ps…I must admit, looking at these photos with the snow and the sun gets me SO excited for winter!! I’m hoping for big snow this year so we can get in some skiing!
