These photos are some of my very favorite of a sweet girl that I photographed at a preschool that I do some work with. I love this series of images…she was so tentative at first, not wanting to let go of her giraffe, then she eased up a little and by the end of the session she was giggly and didn’t need her giraffe at all. I adore that she is clutching her giraffe so tightly in that first shot, sucking her thumb and looking at me intently. She needed time to warm up, and that’s perfectly fine. In fact, images like this are an important way to remember these fleeting times in our little ones lives. There are usually times when our children hold something dear to them, that comforts them…why not include that in your images? I was just there doing my fall photos and in she walked, carrying her giraffe with her spunky piggy tails and an excited smile ready for me to take her photos again, this time with her little sis. She wasn’t timid this time at all and she showed me every bit of her fun and energetic personality 🙂
Remember to bring along your children’s favorite things for your sessions, if we’re shooting at your home or in my studio or even out and about. It’s important for your children to have something to lean on if they aren’t quite comfortable and ready to get their photos taken. We don’t want to push them too fast, it’s best to let the session unfold and allow your child to trust me and feel open with me as I’m holding the big camera in their face…that’s when we get the most fun and honest images of your loved one.
