I’m loving this project and the push to get out my big camera more often, to look at the weekly prompts and see what I can capture in the little everyday moments of the lives of my loved ones.
We’ve had a pretty uneventful winter as far as snow goes this year, but we just got a little bit and I thought I would love to get my youngest out there for a quick photo or two. Lucky for me, he said yes. Although this little series of images isn’t just a casually captured everyday moment, I love the series of getting those natural smiles. This week has been a great reminder to me to keep my “big camera” handy and start using it to capture our little moments. I am a HUGE believer in the sentiment that the best camera you have is the one that is with you…even if that’s your phone. But for me, I want this project to push me to document with more than just my phone.

That’ll do, right? It’s a smile…he’s happy, we’re out in the snow. But I wanted more. So I asked for him to grab some snow (“but it’s cold, mom”) and throw it up in the air.
Huh. That seems fun…
Keep going? Okay.
Look at those smiles. That’s what I want.
Those are happy…but cold…eyes. That’s the kiddo that I love to see. We can’t actually see the smile on his lips, but you know it’s there. You can see it in his eyes.
Okay…let’s get back inside now.
That little shoot took all of about five minutes. What did I gain in that time? Some one on one time with my kiddo, some photos that I love, a happy kid to send off to school and a little time with my big girl camera. It was worth it.
