My daughter will soon be a teenager and we’ve been talking about finishing her bedroom for quite a while. After my teenage son’s room was complete we did a few little updates, but it’s finally time to dig in and really get it finished up.
Our process for getting this going is pretty similar to what we did in my son’s room when collecting and finding inspiration and you can see that post here: teen boy bedroom inspiration. For my daughter, we also had some constraints and things we want to do so here is our process:
1 | Over the past few years we have been collecting things here and there so we knew the general direction that we wanted to go…we just needed to make sure that she was still on board with the general color scheme and furniture arrangement. Yay…she was good with it all, just wanted to add some more personal touches.
2 | Pinterest to the rescue. As we’re looking at the room and assessing her needs for a functional room (and a room that she can dream and wish and goal plan in), Pinterest is a great source for little touches and overall great ideas on things to incorporate. I have a Pinterest board dedicated to teen girl bedrooms that you can see (and click on) below.

3 | Getting that paint color right. She’s got a lot of aqua and pink in that room and we’re bringing in a little yellow so doing any kind of bold color on the wall would just be too much. After the grey paint debate in my son’s room, my daughter and I picked out a warmer grey that we’ve used elsewhere in the house…I’m excited to get it up on the walls!!
4 | Determine what furniture is staying, what is going, what is coming in, what we need and how we can best accommodate all of her stuff. Sketch out the best use of space, use graph paper if needed or just wing it. Look at the walls too, what kind of storage can go on the walls, what kind of artwork is needed?
Here’s a peek at where we are and where we’ve been with her room:
I know I can hardly wait…so I know she’s excited to finally have a room that feels finished and complete. Soon. I’ll post finished photos soon.
