It’s been a long time since I’ve changed up the website and with the recent launch of the updated site I thought it was a great time to talk a bit about why I love photographing seniors and teens and what I hope to achieve by being your photographer. I’ve been a photographer for many years, photographing newborns, weddings, families and everything in between…but the more that I photographed tweens and teens – and seniors – the more I knew that this was what I needed to be doing. I love photography in all of its forms but these young adults working their way through these sometimes trying – but mostly amazing – years is what I connect with and want to help them to document.
These teenage years are incredible. So many things are happening, so many memories are being created and the time goes by so very fast. As you’re going through it you feel as though you’ll never forget a thing…except maybe the things that you might hope to forget. But I promise, this time is a blur. It’s a blur for you and for your loved ones. Parents of teens cannot believe that this time has already come. It feels like yesterday that the ABC song was being sung and training wheels were on, but here we are. Soon these teens will be out in the great big world and the hope is that they’ll be ready…and that they’ll have the support that they need from those around them, no matter the path that they choose.
I’m living these years now with my own children and it’s amazing and wonderful and scary all at once. I’m reminded of my own teen years, the similarities and the vast differences. I’m also very aware of the things that I don’t remember as vividly as I thought that I would. I want my children to remember the good and the bad and most of all to know that they are loved and supported. I want them to have visual reminders of this time as well…from the photographs of our daily lives and from special occasions and milestones. The stories of our lives are important and I love finding creative ways to tell them so that we can reminisce and so that these days can be shared with future generations. Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat are not great ways to store your memories…you do not own those platforms and at any time the memories that you’ve chosen to allow to live there could disappear. I want to help you find alternatives to capturing and holding onto those memories.
I love learning about what teens and seniors are passionate about. Maybe it’s sports, maybe it’s theater, maybe it’s that you love being with your friends or maybe it’s that you are so excited for your big goals and dreams and tackling the next step in life. Whatever it is, my goal is to help create a session that showcases who you are now, who you have been for these past few years and who you hope to become. You may choose to hang up those cleats after a lifetime of soccer games, but let’s find a way to celebrate that time in your life a little bit during your session. You may be thrilled that you won’t have to practice the violin anymore…but let’s find a way to showcase something that you’ve accomplished over these last few years. All of the things that you have done have helped shaped you into the person you are today…and who you will become.
I’m excited that you’re here – please take some time to look around. Telling the stories of these young adults is what I am passionate about and I hope to have the opportunity to tell yours as well.
