There’s a photographer that I love. She’s a Carrie too, but she’s actually Carey Pace. I have loved her everyday images of her family for quite some time and decided that I needed to let her know that and to ask if she was doing a photography project for the new year. She hadn’t really planned on something and didn’t know of a great one, but we got to talking and decided that she’d head one up on facebook and the Ordinary Everyday Project 52 was born. I sent over a list of prompts that I had been working on and she tweaked a few and up it went. I’m very excited about this project as I know it’s going to be a tough one for me…
Taking quality everyday images of my children can be difficult. They’re 10 (nearly 11), 12 and the oldest just turned 14. They aren’t running around the house underfoot all day and when they aren’t in school, they’re pretty busy. I’ve already taken the images of them hanging out in their cribs, I’ve already taken the messy faced high chair photos…but there are still photos to take, I just need to get more creative about how I get them and what they showcase…which led me to deciding that I really needed to get involved in a personal everyday photo challenge. I just needed a little accountability.
Most of the members in this challenge aren’t blogging about their images, but I knew that blogging about this was something that I needed to do. I wanted to take the prompt for the week and figure out how to capture these everyday moments of my teen and tweens in my house as I know that getting everyday images of this age group proves difficult for many. My hope with posting about this challenge is that it will inspire other parents of this age group to start photographing their littles again. Just because they have their own cameras and take selfies and photos with their friends for instagram, doesn’t mean we stop taking photos and documenting our days. Just because they put their hand over their faces when we try and take a pic or give you a silly pose, that doesn’t mean we get out of taking their photographs.
Last October I took on the challenge of writing a blog series about Documenting your Everyday and I think that this year long project is a good follow up. I would love if others would follow along and get involved in documenting more of those little everyday moments that happen around their houses. I promise it’s worth it.
week one | new
My plan and what I hope for this project for the weeks and months to come is to capture these images with my “big girl” camera and really set out with the prompt in mind and capture my family as they are. This week I have instagram photos to share because on most days I’m fighting daylight and we’ve had a pretty hectic few days…but that’s life. And in the midst of that, I need to continue to tell our story. Most weeks I will just have one photo or a series of photos that represent the prompt…this week I included a pic of “me”. Because that is important too…don’t forget to document yourself along with your family.
