Have you ever been to Silver Lake in Utah? If not…make the trip. I promise it’s worth it.
Recently my good friend asked if I wanted to head up into the canyons to photograph the sunrise. I tried to come up with a good reason for why I couldn’t (I’m not really much of a morning person) but in the end I agreed to go with her…she’s very persuasive and that is a good thing for me. We ended up heading up to Silver Lake near Brighton just up Big Cottonwood Canyon in Utah. We made it before the sun came up and although we had known that the weather might not cooperate with us we had really hoped that we could outsmart Mother Nature. It’s actually not possible to do that. As you can see from the image above…we did make two trips. And it was well worth it. Utah is amazing at any time of year, but autumn is especially beautiful. If you have the opportunity to take a trip to Silver Lake, Utah, you should definitely make the time. Both at sunrise in the rain and on a sunny morning after the sun has come up…and bring a little one or two and some bread to feed the ducks. Fun times for sure.
This first trip at sunrise was really pretty awesome. We have decided that we will have to try again as it was pretty tricky bringing out our cameras in the pouring rain…but we managed to get some shots and to play a little with fogging up our lenses. We’re both from the Northwest (Seattle for me, Vancouver Island for her) and so the rain and foggy skies really felt like home. And being there nearly alone on an early Sunday morning was so peaceful…even between our fits of laughter. We made the decision to head back later that week and got a lot more shots with the beautiful color and her little one.
So, so gorgeous! This makes me want to take a trip to Utah – there is NOTHING like that here in SC 🙂 My favorite shot is the one of the little boy on the railing with his back to the camera – such a great storytelling image.
