This Halloween was different.
This year I have two middle schoolers and one kiddo in his last year of elementary school. We were all in for trick or treating as usual and then my oldest got invited to go to the high school football playoff game with his team, so he and his dad did that while the “littles” and I went trick or treating with friends. We had a great time and I know my son had a great time, too…this year was just different.
My daughter (12) was told at one house that she was too old to trick or treat…she responded by telling him that she was “only 12, just tall for her age”. He luckily realized his mistake and said “well, you’re just a young kid” and had no problem with her trick or treating. It’s tough to think that we are nearing the end of these trick or treating days. I’m grateful that I still have a couple more years, and I know that the years ahead are just as amazing. They’re just different.
So…moms of little ones: enjoy these years with young kiddos and going house to house, they go by so very fast. Enjoy the hunting for costumes and the dressing up and all the little details. Take photographs and videos and get their little faces and voices on film.
And if you want to take a trip down memory lane…
