More catch up this week as the kids are off from school with Spring Break and my mom is visiting from Washington State. We’ve been busy, cleaning and organizing and playing and shopping. Here is my fifteenth installment of my 4 the love of focus project 52 myworldyourworld group. If you’ve been catching these, you know that we have been posting every week(ish)
our two images side by side in a diptych as shown below. I love seeing everyone’s take on the themes week after week and to see how people can view the same word as a prompt. If you have time, be sure to check out the 4 the love of focus blog to see the other images that have been posted as well as some great member spotlights and other fun tips and insights for photographers.

Our prompt for this week (actually last week) was pride. I couldn’t figure out what a good image might be, and then last Wednesday (my birthday) my daughter made a cake with her activity days girls. It was perfect timing and she was so proud of herself that she got to make a cake for her mom’s birthday.

Please take a moment to head over to Kristyn’s blog to read her thoughts on the last couple prompts, especially this last one. Enjoy!

This Friday brings the fifth installment of my 4 the love of focus project 52 myworldyourworld group. We have been posting every week our two images side by side in a diptych as shown below. It has been great to see everyone’s take on the themes each week and to see how differently each person views a topic. If you have time, be sure to check out the 4 the love of focus blog to see the other images that have been posted as well as some great member spotlights and other fun tips and insights for photographers.

This week our creative prompt was paper. I struggled with this topic…had thought of several ideas, but nothing really jumped out at me. While I was walking around the house hoping to find something super creative to take a photo of I stopped at one of the several Valentine’s Day decorations that are spread throughout our home, many of which I have created. I thought back to when I had made these items and was reminded of how paper and creating things with paper was once one of my very favorite things. I used to spend hours upon hours designing and creating with paper. Sometimes I miss those days and think back to scrapbooking and papercrafting and think how much I would love to start it up again…and then I realize that it’s just not for me anymore. So I admire those pages and cards and projects that are being created by my friends and I enjoy the ones from my past…wondering what in the heck I’m going to do with the boxes and boxes of supplies that I have saved “just in case” I can once again find the energy and love to create with paper…or maybe I’ll just give in to the kids and let them enjoy

This week, be sure to take a peek at Albuquerque photographer Laura Meeks and her partners Arroyo Grande, CA photographer Janet Powers and Newton NJ photographer Tina for their takes on the paper challenge. And as always, don’t forget to check out my weekly partner for this year long project Kristyn LaPres, a fantastic Grand Rapids wedding and newborn photographer.

weektwo

This week we were given the prompt “guilt”…I thought that was pretty funny coming off of a week of “resolution” and so my image was pretty easy for me. I am still doing great with my fitness routines and really enjoying getting stronger and more athletic, but I still have one vice that I can’t seem to shake and that is my soda…diet coke? Nope…that’s regular Cherry Pepsi and it’s just not good for me. And so I’m quitting, slowly. I would probably do a lot better if I would just go cold turkey, but that has been hard this week. But that is my goal…no more soda, no more guilt about drinking it.

My partner for this year long project is the very talented Kristyn of Kristyn LaPresPhotography (portrait and lifestyle photographer in West Michigan) so please take a look at our images below and be sure to check out her blog as well! And if you get a moment, please check out Veronica Starr and see what she and her partner posted about!

it’s Halloween cookie time around here…My mom sends us cookies to decorate for just about every holiday and the kids always look so forward to making their creations.

I did have some icing…but no cookies. Saving myself for the boatloads of candy these three are going to bring in this weekend…

I had a great time photographing these two as we explored some new spots…quite a different day than the one I woke up to today. Snow here in Utah…makes me so happy!

The cooler weather is officially upon us, the leaves are turning and it’s chilly enough to make sweaters mandatory…especially in the evenings. If you’re struggling with ideas for your session with Carrie Owens Photography, check out the what to wear category here on the blog or take a look at this fantastic new resource Wardrobe Wednesday. And for clients of Carrie Owens Photography, there is a digital what to wear guide that can be found in the client section of the blog.
The newsletter came out last night…were you on the mailing list? If not, be sure to sign up here because a supplemental newsletter with mini session information will be going out soon…and those that are on the mailing list get first choice of time slots.
Have a great Wednesday everyone…it’s short day here in Utah for the kids as it’s UEA weekend, which means no school til next Tuesday!

Today is a great fall day here in Utah…a little rain, some overcast skies a little chill in the air, I love it. Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons…football, school starting, leaves changing colors, Halloween and Thanksgiving, warm sweaters and socks. I don’t think I’m quite used to fall here in Utah even after 9 years of it…it’s still strange to me that the kids are going to school in shorts and tshirts all the way through September and into October even. I forget each year that if you’re not careful, you might miss the fall colors…seems like they were around longer in Washington. I do remember the years here where we’d get snow on Halloween and not see the grass again til spring…and as much as I LOVE snow, I think I’ll pass on that
Have you scheduled your fall session yet? There are lots of great locations where we can go and get that perfect shot of your family or kids that you’ve been hoping for. Holiday cards on your list? We can get that checked off too. Once you’ve got that session scheduled, are you trying to come up with ideas on how to style your session from a clothing standpoint? Just not sure what you all should wear? Wondering if you should all match or just coordinate? Wondering if you should get dressed up or stay casual? The biggest thing I tell my clients to remember is to wear something that is comfortable – especially for kids. Nothing gets a cute happy kid grouchier faster than an outfit that they’re pulling at or that mom or dad has to keep adjusting. Wear something that reflects you as a family and as a person…these images should be treasured for years if not generations to come, you want them to be a true representation of who you were at this point in your life.
Feel free to browse through my What to Wear Wednesday category for more ideas.
