bloom forum’s fab 15 weekly challenge | salt lake city utah children’s photographer | joy | week 17

    Sunday, May 8th, 2011

The challenge from the bloom forum’s fab 15 was joy for this week…there are many things that I can find joy in, but on Saturday morning when I woke up early to leave for my first ever Goldilocks women’s only bike ride I saw these signs on the table.

I was so pleased that the kids were excited for me, that they were proud of me and that they wanted me to do well :) And I did do well :)

For more of the {fab 15’s} take on this week’s theme of  Joy on this Mother’s Day, go check out the fantastic Vicksburg photographer Rachel Potter. Thanks for taking a peek and I’ll be back with another prompt next Sunday!

bloom forum’s fab 15 weekly challenge | salt lake city utah children’s photographer | grow | week 15

    Sunday, April 24th, 2011

This week’s challenge from the bloom forum’s fab 15 was grow or growth. The shot below is of the last batch of grass grown by a first grader in a little milk carton to grace my window sill. My oldest son brought home his grass that he planted and grew in the little milk carton 3 years ago…and my daughter did the same two years ago. And when my youngest got in the car with his tiny carton of grass that he had planted and watered and watched grow in his first grade classroom it kind of made me sad…he’s my last one. He’s growing…they’re all growing up so fast. These days are fun…the days before were fun…and the days to come will be fun. Each stage is so different and so very great for the different things it brings. But it still gets me a little sad that along with all the upcoming firsts, there are so many little lasts.

my world + your world weekly challenge week fifteen | pride | salt lake city utah family photographer

    Friday, April 22nd, 2011

More catch up this week as the kids are off from school with Spring Break and my mom is visiting from Washington State. We’ve been busy, cleaning and organizing and playing and shopping. Here is my fifteenth installment of my 4 the love of focus project 52 myworldyourworld group. If you’ve been catching these, you know that we have been posting every week(ish) :) our two images side by side in a diptych as shown below.  I love seeing everyone’s take on the themes week after week and to see how people can view the same word as a prompt. If you have time, be sure to check out the 4 the love of focus blog to see the other images that have been posted as well as some great member spotlights and other fun tips and insights for photographers.

I couldn’t figure out what a good image might be, and then last Wednesday (my birthday) my daughter made a cake with her activity days girls. It was perfect timing and she was so proud of herself that she got to make a cake for her mom’s birthday.

This is coming to the internet world a little late as my partner and I decided to hold off posting until she was back from her very wonderful vacation with her family. So here is the thirteenth installment of my 4 the love of focus project 52 myworldyourworld group. If you’ve been visiting, you know that we have been posting every week our two images side by side in a diptych as shown below.  I love seeing everyone’s take on the themes each week and to see how people can view the same word as a prompt. I struggled with this prompt, could not figure out anything that was even remotely majestic…until I was doing the dishes and looked out my kitchen window at the view that I find myself taking for granted every so often.

bloom forum’s fab 15 weekly challenge | salt lake city utah photographer | old | week 9

    Sunday, March 13th, 2011

This week’s challenge from the bloom forum’s fab 15 was old…

photograph of old wrist watch in salt lake city

This watch was my grandmother’s watch….my mom’s mom. When I was young, my grandma lived with the two of us for a while and she slept in my room while I slept in my mom’s room with her. But I remember my grandma’s nighttime routine. I remember listening to her wind her watch before bed, I remember watching her clean her face and get herself all situated and ready for bed. My cousin’s daughter found this watch along with another of our grandmother’s watches and gave this one to my daughter and kept the other…I have since taken over care of the watch. I must admit that it doesn’t keep great time (not sure if I’m winding it correctly or not) but even if it makes me late, I still love seeing this on my wrist. I’ll give it back to Claire when she’s a bit older and can ensure that it is looked after…but for now, this watch of my grandma’s will be on my wrist.

salt lake city utah family photographer | what to wear wednesday | spring fashions

    Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Welcome back to the what to wear wednesday posts with a little look into Spring. As much as I adore the snow here in Utah, once that sun starts shining and the snow starts melting I begin to get really excited for all of the new beginnings that Spring offers. I love the selection of outfits below and they can all be easily adapted for the people in your shoot. Notice how the colors all blend nicely together, yet are not to matching. Also remember when selecting outfits for your family to take into consideration all the children together, each child alone with each parent, the parents together and all family members together as well.

bloom forum’s fab 15 weekly challenge | salt lake city utah photographer | something hot (or cold) | week 7

    Sunday, February 27th, 2011

This week’s challenge from the bloom forum’s fab 15 was something hot or cold…

salt lake city utah photographer weekly bloom challenge

After the kids played out in the snow this afternoon, they all wanted hot chocolate…and with a newly installed operational microwave, I was happy to help them out. I am grateful for another snow to make everything white and pretty again. But some sun also sounds pretty great.

Hello Saturday, oh how I’ve been looking forward to you. It’s been a busy and fun week

Here is the eighth installment of my 4 the love of focus project 52 myworldyourworld group. We have been posting every week our two images side by side in a diptych as shown below.  It has been great to see everyone’s take on the themes each week and to see how differently each person views a topic. This week our creative prompt was weather…and I really thought that Mother Nature was going to cooperate with some gorgeous white winter Utah snow on Friday when I needed to get my image done…and I did get some Friday morning, but not enough to get the image that I wanted. So instead I took the opportunity to photograph the snow and ice as it melts and retreats off of the stone steps in my backyard. Now this morning…THAT was something different all together!! We got lots of snow :)

salt lake city utah photographer weekly challenge definition

This week our creative prompt was shadow/shadows. I wasn’t quite sure what to do with this…I had visions of getting my three kids together, holding hands and getting a great shadow shot of them, but it’s been late nights every night this week so no sun=no shadows. But this morning I had the idea of making a heart with the hands of one of my three with the light that comes in through the family room sliding doors. That was a challenge in itself…

This week, be sure to take a peek at Albuquerque photographer Laura Meeks and her partners Arroyo Grande, CA photographer Janet Powers and Newton NJ photographer Tina for their takes on the paper challenge. And as always, don’t forget to check out my weekly partner for this year long project Kristyn LaPres, a fantastic Grand Rapids wedding and newborn photographer.

bloom forum’s fab 15 weekly challenge | salt lake city utah photographer | in the home | week 4

    Sunday, February 6th, 2011

This week’s challenge from the bloom forum’s fab 15 was easy…because on Friday, my home was complete again. Hubby has been traveling for work lately (this past week in London) and he was finally back in the home this Friday…

The kids and I are so happy to see this bag on the floor in the family room…it means daddy is home again.
