adorable baby k | sandy utah newborn photographer

    Friday, July 8th, 2011

I was so very excited to meet this little guy. I love this couple and had such a great time photographing their wedding and I remember telling them that I couldn’t wait until they decided to have babies as I knew that they would make some beautiful children. I wasn’t wrong :) I was so happy when I found out that they were expecting and had a great time shooting their maternity photos in my studio. When baby K arrived I was so happy for them and couldn’t wait to have him in my studio. We got many great shots, but the photo below just might be one of my favorites. Babies grow and change but you can usually still see their faces in those baby photos as they grow…but they are only this little for such a very short time. Those tiny feet and little legs will grow and run and play and have many fun adventures but they are only able to be cradled close like this for so long.

This is the adorable guy that was showing me how strong he was when he first got here…he was so tempted not to sleep, didn’t want to miss a thing. I just love the little wrinkles in his forehead and those gorgeous blue eyes.

We did get some sleepy shots…some calm moments when he was swaddled tightly. Such a peaceful little guy.

More toes…how can you resist baby toes? So perfect and tiny.

I just love these next few shots of baby boy and his momma. You can feel her love for him as she quietly looks at him, kisses him softly. She is a wonderful mother, just as I knew she would be :)

six days new | salt lake city utah newborn photographer

    Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

I recently had the pleasure of meeting and photographing this sweet beautiful baby girl just six days after her arrival. She was such a trooper, slept for us so well and we were able to get lots of shots in her adorable pink accented room.

One of mom’s requests was an image with their new and old babies together…I love this shot that we were able to capture.

big photography giveaway | salt lake city photographer

    Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Becky Higgins is someone that I have admired from the beginnings of my scrapbooking obsession. After I began teaching for CK and Simple Scrapbooks I was lucky enough to get to meet her and now can call her a friend. I look back on the first time I met her as a fellow teacher and remember being so star struck thinking how crazy it was that I was able to go to lunch with her and some of the other big names that I admired so much. I am pretty sure that I even told her that, and I remember her laughing at me, thinking I was silly for feeling that way. Becky is a generous and kind person and I am so proud to be a part of her Giveaway. Check out her blog here to see the details and enter for your chance to win…and if you’re not in my area, keep checking for the rest of the month of May, there just might be a photographer in your area!!

thursday three things | utah photographer | where should we have our shoot?

    Thursday, March 11th, 2010

In thinking about topics for a Thursday Three Things post I run through questions and items that clients and I discuss in our planning for sessions. One topic that often comes up is where should we have our session…what kind of session do you, the client, desire? This Thursday Three Things will address that issue and do in to some detail on the types of sessions that are offered through carrieowensphotography.

    thing one:

Sometimes the easiest place to hold our session is at the client’s home. The good thing about having the session at your home is that your children are comfortable there. They like to show off their rooms, explore the different rooms and outdoors with me. They like to show me their toys and they can most often be themselves at home. We can read books, play games and have a relaxed time with the lady that showed up at the house with a camera. Newborns are almost always done at the clients home as well…easiest for the new parents – even if it’s your fifth baby! I come to you, bring my things and we just spend some time getting the shots that we need.

    thing two:

We live in a great state…Utah has many great locations for outdoor shoots in all seasons with very different outcomes. There are lots of parks and trails and other outdoor spots up the canyons that have great backdrops for some fabulous sessions. We can also take your shoot to a more urban location with some fun bright walls downtown and other fun sights. There are also some other great spots that I have in my bag of tricks, so if you’re stumped on a spot, let’s do some brainstorming! I also love trying out new locations – just ask my kids! -  so if you have something in mind that you’d like to try, please know that I’m open to suggestions!

    thing three:

Studio sessions…what??? Since when? Since now. Studio sessions are something new that carrieowensphotography will be offering this Spring so keep checking the blog for more information and sneak peeks to come!

thursday three things | I love my job.

    Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Last night as I was finishing up editing some newborn photos and moving onto another set I realized that my mind was racing…I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I really love what I’m doing. It was late, the kids were already asleep, I had some DVR’d shows (American Idol) that I needed and really wanted to watch…but I didn’t want to stop doing what I was doing to go into the other room to relax. I was thinking about the shoots that I have planned for next week – including a 2 day shoot at a school that I am so very excited about, and the shoots that I have in my mind that I want to do and I realized that I was just so excited about them.

I know that I am very lucky to have the opportunity that I do to live out my dreams and be a photographer. I know that I’m lucky that I have my three kids who are willing (most of the time) to model for me, test out locations for shoots and try out some of the ideas I have floating around in my head. I know that I’m lucky that I have a super supportive husband who encourages me and pushes me to be the best me that I can be. I’m lucky for the amazing clients that I’ve met and been able to get glimpses into their lives.

I think that before I go on too long about all this, I’m going to stop and show three photos of a recent newborn session for my Thursday Three Things of the week. If you ‘d like to see more of this sweet family check out their maternity session and a sweet peek at their baby here.

    thing one:

    thing two:

    thing three:

Another reason I love my job – I get to play with sweet babies…can’t really beat that.

Here are a few more photos of Sweet Miss L from my session a little bit ago. I had to throw in a photo of her doting older brother since he took such great care of my beanbag while I was there :) You’re photos are almost ready, Momma, expect an email from me soon with the details, but for now, enjoy this collage of your adorable younger two babes.
