sweet family of three | salt lake city utah and sandy utah family photographer

    Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Recently I was able to visit a family in their home to photograph their young little girl as well as get some shots of the three of them together. I had met this little girl a couple of years ago at the preschool that I take school pictures for. I remember her that first year. Quiet and shy. Not wanting to look at me, not wanting to be separated from her sweet teacher. I remember taking my time with her, trying desperately to get at least one shot with her looking. No need for smiles, sometimes the perfect shot is a quiet and calm and wise gaze. We did get some images that day, and I was pleased. I returned a few months later to the school for another round of school pictures and I’m always pleased and amazed at how the kids grow and change. I was so happy to see this sweet girl again. So impressed when she walked right up to my setup and sat and smiled for me. It’s amazing to see the growth in small children, how the quiet ones open up and begin to trust and share of themselves.

I was so excited when I got the email that this little girl’s mom had scheduled a session with me. When I arrived at their house that little shy girl that I remember so clearly was gone and in her place was this vibrant girl ready to show me all around and smile and pose for me. We started out our session in her playroom where she put on a tea party for her mom and dad.

Later we went downstairs to read some books and she told me the story of The Patch. I loved peeking in as mom and dad both took turns reading to her.

After reading and enjoying some time indoors we headed out into the unseasonably warm January weather. Played some peek a boo and ran around in what was left of the snow.

After some scooter and bike riding we settled on the front steps for some fun and snuggly shots.

I just loved this shot of the three of them together. I enlisted the help of Miss M to get her parents to smile as I took some photos of just the two of them and she was all too happy to run up and give them both a big bear hug after we had finished.

Enjoy your little peek, there are many more to come C Family! :)

I was so excited to catch up with this sweet family at one of our past session spots for a little family session in the snow. It was so fun to see them all again, we first met when the were patiently waiting for little C’s arrival and we have seen each other every few months for a little catch up session. It’s such a wonderful thing to see my clients grow and watch their little ones grow and mature. Thank you, B family, for choosing me to photograph your sweet family!

This week’s challenge from the bloom forum’s fab 15 was alone or quiet…and after my second session today at one of my favorite spots, I couldn’t help but share this image…

and how does it fit the theme? Well…for the first time I’ve ever shot at this location, it was quiet. Peaceful, quiet and calm. Perfect for a senior session with this sweet girl.

my world + your world weekly challenge week nine | motion | salt lake city utah photographer

    Friday, March 4th, 2011

Ahhh…Friday. The kids have the day off, I had a studio session this morning…it’s somewhat sunny outside with blue skies and white puffy clouds, it’s a good day.

Here is the ninth installment of my 4 the love of focus project 52 myworldyourworld group (nine weeks?? wow, time flies). We have been posting every week our two images side by side in a diptych as shown below.  It has been great to see everyone’s take on the themes each week and to see how differently each person views a topic. If you have time, be sure to check out the 4 the love of focus blog to see the other images that have been posted as well as some great member spotlights and other fun tips and insights for photographers.

salt lake city utah photographer weekly challenge motion

This week our creative prompt was motion. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what to do for this…and then one night this week the boys and I were playing in the studio.  They started jumping and doing their karate kicks and I got this shot below and Jarrod thought it was hysterical (the outtakes are even funnier). And yes, they are in their pjs…but I have permission as after my oldest saw the images he asked “Can these go on your blog, Mom??”  Yes, yes they can :)   So for me…frozen motion is what we get :)

I love how my partner Kristyn LaPres, a fantastic Grand Rapids wedding and newborn photographer captured the pinwheel so perfectly in her shot with the stillness of the grass around it and I love the comparison of the frozen motion and the blurred motion of our two images.

This week’s challenge from the bloom forum’s fab 15 was together…

salt lake city utah family photographer bloom weekly challenge

I had thought about getting an image with the three kids together, but with our busy schedule, I opted for an image showcasing something we DID together this week…the kids prepping for their valentine’s day parties by creating their boxes. I loved watching them make their own boxes, cutting the paper themselves, designing where everything should go and doing it all themselves…that was huge for this momma to not try to take over (maybe next year I’ll have to make a box for myself since I don’t get to help anymore :) ) But it was so fun watching the three of them creating TOGETHER.

For more of the {fab 15’s} take on the together theme, go check out Central Maryland photographer Jessica of The Gaggle Photography. Thanks for taking a peek and I’ll be back with another prompt next Sunday!

    Monday, January 31st, 2011

It seems as though they’ve caught the bug…I think it’s genetic (they got it from their dad, though…not me). Wanting to play basketball out in the freezing (30 degrees!) snowy nighttime weather while waiting for a friend to pick him up to take him to basketball practice. And it wasn’t just him…the other two were playing too. Not momma though…I’ll wait to play during the daytime.

    Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

This week’s challenge from the bloom forum’s fab 15 is little. Little can mean so many things, but this week was my littlest’s 7th birthday. I cannot believe that my baby is seven. I remember when my oldest turned seven and thinking how grown up he was…I remember when my daughter turned seven, such a grown up girl. And now it’s my baby’s turn. And although he’s just as big and just as grown up as his siblings were at this age…to me he’s still so little. So very little.

snowy day | mine on monday | salt lake city child photographer

    Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Finally we got a big snow…I’d been waiting and waiting as snow is kind of one of my favorite things about living in Utah. Summer is great, Spring is nice (although usually short) and Fall is gorgeous (although also shorter than I would like) but Winter brings the snow. There is nothing more fun than sitting inside all cozy and warm and seeing the snow fall out the window…especially knowing that the roads will be plowed. And speaking of that, I love waking up in the night seeing the yellow flashes of the lights against the darkness of my bedroom and hearing the rumble of the snow plows driving down our street…it means we got a great snow while I slept! Snow is also great for building snowmen and snow forts, snowball fights and skiing. The kids were super excited to get the shovels out and clear the driveway…they were even fighting over who got one of our two shovels…but after clearing one or two strips each, they were all done and were happy to give the shovels back to me. Each winter we contemplate splurging and getting a snow blower and although shoveling isn’t really a whole ton of fun, I’m glad that we have resisted. It’s good exercise and soon enough we’ll get those kids shoveling  without complaints (ok…that may be wishful thinking).

    Friday, November 12th, 2010

I wanted to share a quick storyboard from this sweet family that I got to photograph a while back. I just love this series of images…watching their adorable boy run into their arms and the look of joy on mom and dad’s faces. Just some of the many images from this shoot that show such love, happiness and emotion.
