holiday cards | salt lake city utah family photographer

    Monday, November 22nd, 2010

It’s that time of year when the snow starts falling here in Utah…the homes are warm and the hats and gloves are out. The holiday lights are on the houses and in our mailboxes we start getting those holiday cards from our neighbors, relatives and long lost college roomies. For those of you that are past or current clients (or those wanting to try and sneak a photo session in soon) I have an offer for you. Before that first card comes in the mail and you think…”oh, man…I’ll get to ours next week”, take a look at the boutique section in your cart and check out the holiday cards that are available…and for those orders placed before December 1st, receive 25% off your holiday card order (send me an email to get your code before checkout). We can use images from any of your past sessions, just give me a call or send me an email and we can work out the details!

Happy Tuesday all…this Tuesday started out with a great trip to the gym (where my trainer has pretty much rendered my arms unusable for the rest of the day) and three voicemails from school when I got back to my phone…I’m now home with a sick girl who will hopefully be feeling much better soon…now back to my lists…

mine on monday | my kids signs for their rooms | salt lake city utah child photographer

    Monday, October 11th, 2010

I wanted to make some little initial signs for my kids doors for quite some time…I had seen this idea long ago and finally got around to picking the images I wanted and got them all set up…they are mounted and require no framing, I’ll simply attach a ribbon and hang on the front of their doors.

If you are interested in something like this from your session, please let me know. These would also make a great sign for your family image with your last initial above…lots of options!

thurday three things | utah photographer | storyboards

    Thursday, April 1st, 2010

First off, Happy April Fools Day :) Although I do kind of love this “holiday”, it also keeps me on edge all day and that’s a little more stress than I’d like :) In fact I’m pretty sure my husband spent our conversations yesterday setting up a little “fool the wife story” and it’s making me nervous.

For today’s topic I wanted to show a few storyboards that I’ve created from past sessions. Custom storyboards can always be created from your sessions, just ask me :)

my new necklace | utah children’s photographer

    Monday, March 22nd, 2010

A new product is available through carrieowensphotography and I haven’t stopped wearing mine since I got it. It’s a beautiful silver charm measuring 5/8″ square and hangs from a 1mm sterling silver 18″ snake chain. It’s simple and clean and beautiful, perfect for Mother’s Day or birthdays or just because. If you are a past client and would like information about ordering a necklace from a past session, please let me know and we can work that out.

thursday three things | utah photographer | image boxes

    Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Carrie Owens Photography is offering some new options for clients: Fine Art Albums, Fine Art Image Boxes and Session Boxes available for purchase after your session. These products are available for those of us that just can’t seem to let an image go from our sessions or that simply want a gorgeous way to display our photographs. These items are perfect compliments to a wedding package or a senior session as well as your typical family session.

    1. Fine Art Albums are beautiful square albums that are custom designed from your session and showcase your images in a way that you can cherish for generations. More information on these albums to follow soon. Current clients, please inquire if you are interested in this product.

    2. Fine Art Image Boxes are boxes that contain the images from your session in mounted 5×7 format perfect for a rotating easel display on your bookcase or mantle. These images have a beautiful texture to them and fit nicely in the custom designed box with room for a cd of your images in a low resolution format as a digital backup.

    3. Session Boxes are smaller than the Fine Art Image Boxes yet still contain all of your images in loose 5×7 format. This option also has the cd of your images in low resolution format as a digital backup. The box is custom designed with a beautiful ribbon and magnetic  closure.

Installment number two of the thursday three things from carrieowensphotography includes two new products and one little reminder

    thing one:

    whimsical frames

The above photos show an 8×8 image framed image with a beautiful linen texture to the photograph. The frame is 3-1/2″ wide with an edge detail, the whimsical trim which can be in the same shade as the frame or a coordinating color is up to nearly 2″ at it’s widest point. These frames require no glass and allow you to hang your art on your walls as soon as it arrives from my studio. Pricing and color samples available upon client request.

    thing two:

    rustic frames

The above storyboard is a 10×20 image framed in a 3-1/2″ wide rustic frame with coordinating 1″ detailing. In the close up image you can see the detail of the print itself that requires no glass. There are several colors and options available, pricing and color samples available upon client request.

    thing three:

    go big.

In the above image you can see the importance of going big with your images. This was one of my favorite shots from a session and I wanted to make an impact with it for a boutique show that I had coming up. I printed it at a 16×24 size…sounds pretty large, right? Place it in my living room (next to the giant clock…I know…kinda messes with the proportions a bit) and it doesn’t look so huge anymore. If this image was a canvas (which  means it would protrude from the wall a bit) or framed, it would be able to stand on this wall. By itself (or if it were smaller) it almost gets a little lost. Pay close attention when purchasing wall portraits for your home. Look at the area in which you are planning on placing the image and really map it out to see how it will look. Also think about grouping images together to make a statement. See this past post for more images of photographic art around my home. And for my clients, I have some great wall display ideas, let me know if you would like to see them and I can set you up with the password for the online gallery of images.

what to wear version two | Utah family photographer

    Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

This post is in follow up to a popular entry from November answering the always present “What do I wear?” question. This shows that it’s ok that you don’t have outfits that “match” or that you think go together. Because if you pull together outfits that are similar in style, meaning all casual, all dressy, all in jewel tones, etc…you can pull of some great looks.

This example shows a more colorful example of coordinating outfits than the previous version which showed a more monochromatic styling. Both are great, but this example shows that you don’t have to be matching to look great together. A outfit grouping like the one above highlights the people and their personalities and creates a great pulled together look for your images.

Were the months before the holidays too crazy and hectic to get everyone together for some family photos? Did you get tons of holiday cards from friends and relatives showcasing their family pics but never took the time to create your own? Are you thinking it’s time to bite the bullet and finally get everyone together for some fun shots…but you’re thinking you need to wait until next year? Please don’t wait. So many things can happen in a year…and we all know how crazy those months are before the holidays, right? :) So I have an offer for you…book yourself a family photo session now at the regular session fee rate (or one for just the kids for a great Valentine’s gift for mom or dad) and get another fall family session to be held after August 1st for a half off your fall session fee. Keep reading the blog in the coming weeks…some new information to be coming regarding new products and more!
