sweet family of three | salt lake city utah and sandy utah family photographer

    Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Recently I was able to visit a family in their home to photograph their young little girl as well as get some shots of the three of them together. I had met this little girl a couple of years ago at the preschool that I take school pictures for. I remember her that first year. Quiet and shy. Not wanting to look at me, not wanting to be separated from her sweet teacher. I remember taking my time with her, trying desperately to get at least one shot with her looking. No need for smiles, sometimes the perfect shot is a quiet and calm and wise gaze. We did get some images that day, and I was pleased. I returned a few months later to the school for another round of school pictures and I’m always pleased and amazed at how the kids grow and change. I was so happy to see this sweet girl again. So impressed when she walked right up to my setup and sat and smiled for me. It’s amazing to see the growth in small children, how the quiet ones open up and begin to trust and share of themselves.

I was so excited when I got the email that this little girl’s mom had scheduled a session with me. When I arrived at their house that little shy girl that I remember so clearly was gone and in her place was this vibrant girl ready to show me all around and smile and pose for me. We started out our session in her playroom where she put on a tea party for her mom and dad.

Later we went downstairs to read some books and she told me the story of The Patch. I loved peeking in as mom and dad both took turns reading to her.

After reading and enjoying some time indoors we headed out into the unseasonably warm January weather. Played some peek a boo and ran around in what was left of the snow.

After some scooter and bike riding we settled on the front steps for some fun and snuggly shots.

I just loved this shot of the three of them together. I enlisted the help of Miss M to get her parents to smile as I took some photos of just the two of them and she was all too happy to run up and give them both a big bear hug after we had finished.

Enjoy your little peek, there are many more to come C Family! :)

winter family sessions | what to wear | salt lake city utah family photographer

    Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

After living in Utah for almost 11 years, I think this winter goes down as the strangest one I’ve seen so far. One of the most exciting things to me about living in Utah isn’t the hot summers…it’s the snow!! Half the license plates in this town boast the “greatest snow on Earth!” and yet we just had what was said to be one of the driest Decembers ever. I want snow…and so do my clients. I’ve had several clients want winter white sessions, but have waited until we get a good snow. Well, hopefully there will be some snow to speak of soon…and not in April :)

Once you’ve got that winter session scheduled…what do you wear? Below is a great example of a coordinated family that isn’t overly matchy-matchy. The group lends itself to a great look when everyone is together as well as good pairings and individual shots. Please remember to take a look at past what to wear ideas because even if the clothing isn’t what you have in mind or if you’re a family of 7 instead of an engaged couple – there are still great ideas on colors palettes and pattern mixing.

beautiful afternoon light for a family of six | salt lake city utah family photographer

    Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

I’ve photographed this littlest one at a local preschool for a couple of years and was so excited when her mother called to book a family session. This sweet girl has the most beautiful big brown eyes and I’ve always loved taking her school photos and usually have such a hard time narrowing her selection down. The afternoon was chilly but the skies were clear and blue and the light was gorgeous. We were able to get some great shots of each of the kids and several family images as well as some fun playing in the leaves shots.

Recently I was able to photograph some of my favorite clients for their fall session. Mom and I were checking the weather everyday…seeing rain, rain, rain. We talked about rescheduling, we talked about other locations. But in the end, we dared it not to rain. And the weather held :)

Could this little sweetheart’s grin be any cuter? I was so happy to get big grins from her this time :)

And…the eyes on older sis are just to die for. She was a great little model for me, posing and doing anything I needed.

I loved this image of the four of them together. Not the typical everyone smiling and looking. Mom and dad smiling and talking, big sis posing and looking on while little sis is content to be in moms arms.

happy birthday grammy | salt lake city utah family photographer

    Thursday, November 10th, 2011

I wanted to create a post today to wish the kids Grammy a happy birthday today. When Jarrod’s mom was here this summer, one of her and the kids requests was a quick photo session. We headed off to a nearby spot I know and got some fun shots of the kids with their Grammy. So on this chilly November day the Owens family wants to wish Grammy a very happy birthday!

The snow has landed here in Utah, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late for your family photos. If you’re still interested in getting some shots, feel free to email me or click on the schedule a session link below to see if we can get you on the schedule. But now a look back to an early fall session of a couple cute brothers in blue. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing these brothers on a number of occasions and this time we went out to a great location to get some shots of them together and some family shots as well.

Recently I had the pleasure of photographing an extended family of a bride and groom that I photographed just over a year ago. I worried about the weather all day…living here in Utah (as compared to growing up in Washington) I’ve always loved that sun is pretty much a standard in the summer. Well, that isn’t the case this summer and we battled dark skies and rain on and off all day. When it came time for our session that evening, the skies were overcast (perfect) and the rain let up…until I drove away after the session and noticed a few random raindrops. Here are a few of my favorites from this session of this University of Maryland football loving family (dad is one of the football coaches at the UoM).

This past week I had the opportunity to photograph one of my recent newborns with his older brother at their home. It was such a treat to see how baby c had grown in just the two short months that I had been there to photograph him after his birth. He is so loved by his older brother who just wants to cuddle and love on his younger brother and do anything he can to help his mom out. And who wouldn’t want to help out with a baby brother as cute as this little guy??

And one of my very favorite shots of the two boys…there are several more, but this one was one of my faves!

I was so excited to catch up with this sweet family at one of our past session spots for a little family session in the snow. It was so fun to see them all again, we first met when the were patiently waiting for little C’s arrival and we have seen each other every few months for a little catch up session. It’s such a wonderful thing to see my clients grow and watch their little ones grow and mature. Thank you, B family, for choosing me to photograph your sweet family!

This past holiday season I had the pleasure to photograph this family and their children and grandchildren. We braved the cold and luckily had no rain or snow and found some fun locations at Gardner Village for their family portraits.
